SOFT COMPOSITS

Light tunneling processes between optical fibers and microresonators is just one of the several research areas the group is active in. We are developing composite materials for optical, electronic, fotonic and sensor applications.

The group operates in cooperation with several partners, developing applicable solutions in several fields. We are focusing on the following :

Development of new composites for liquid-crystal light modulators, thin film optical filters and other applications of internationally acclaimed partner Balder
New nano-fibre soft composites and possibilities of their production in the production line of our partner Nanotul
New mesogenic colloid composites (superstructures) for potential use in photonics, plasmonics, sensorics and microfluidics. We are still looking for a high-tech partner in this field.

These are a few goals and challenges we have set for ourselves in the group for soft composites:

Development of composite surface layer for specialized liquid crystal optical switches
Optical resonators and sensors based on liquid crystal colloids
Light transport and manipulation in confined colloid systems
Electric actuation of dispersion of sub-micro particles in liquid crystal elastomers
Soft composites with nanowires from transient metals – application in electronics
